Senior Pastor – Dr. C. Mike Purdy

Dr. Mike Purdy was called as pastor of Forest Heights Baptist Church in October of 1996. He is a native of Rome, Georgia. Pastor Mike received his Bachelor of Arts degrees from Shorter University, Rome, Georgia and Criswell College in Dallas, Texas. He earned a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Theology degree from the University of South Africa. Pastor Mike has served as pastor at churches in Georgia and Oklahoma.

He was saved and baptized under the preaching of Dr. Jerry Vines at West Rome Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia. He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel at Kennesaw First Baptist Church in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Bro. Mike is married to the former Debbie Allgood. They have been blessed with three sons and three daughters-in-law: Shane and Kate Purdy, Ben and Jamie Purdy, and Jeremy and Beth Purdy, and seven grandchildren: Isaac, McCord, Sawyer, Jalyn, Jayci, Jansyn, and Jerzy Purdy.

Pastor Mike loves to impart the Word of God through expositional preaching and teaching. He relates the Word of God in a way that conveys the true meaning based upon the time and context in which it was written, yet he makes it applicable to our lives today. Worship Leader – Richard “Tank” Tankersley

Richard Tankersley is faithfully and masterfully serving as Forest Height’s Minister of Music. Tank is a deacon and Youth Sunday School teacher. He, his wife, Susan, and their children have all faithfully dedicated themselves to service in the Lord’s church. They are all very gifted in the area of music – both singing and playing. Tank has faithfully served as our interim minister of music and as a layperson in the church for many years.


Church Organist – Bobby Howington

Bobby Howington is a native of Athens, Georgia. He has been a member of Talmadge Heights/Forest Heights Baptist Church most of his life. He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 13. He is married to Dianne (Hill) Howington of Toccoa, Georgia. Their two sons, David and Chris, are both active duty U.S. Marines. Bobby seeks to serve the Lord at Forest Heights through music, fellowship as a deacon, and through leadership in the Sunday school ministry. He also enjoys visitation and sharing with others what the Lord has done for him. Bobby can be reached at
